The enemy comes in so many different ways to destroy the peace in our lives, family, and relationships or even at work or on the road while driving.
In spite of everything that goes around us, we serve a God whose name is Jehovah Shalom (God of Peace) who can destroy every presence of evil and bring peace in any circumstance.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 14:27”
An Angel of the Lord comes to visit Gideon while he was threshing wheat in the winepress.
Jud 6:12 And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him, and said to him, “The LORD is with you, you mighty man of valor!”
Wow! Here is a guy who is already hiding away from the enemy and in the winepress situation being constantly crushed by the enemy, trying to get some wheat and to store for him and may be for his family for the whole year. He has got nothing else in his mind nor to fight against this enemy but just to store some food for his family. God calls him You are a courageous man!
We may have a different picture about ourselves but God looks at us completely different.
Don’t always wait for someone else to fight the battles for us. Psm 18:39 “You have armed me with strength for the battle”
If God is taking us through a battle, He has already armed us with enough strength to fight the battle.
Gideon built an altar
Jud 6: 23, 24 – But the LORD said to him, “Peace! Do not be afraid. You are not going to die.” (24) So Gideon built an altar to the LORD there and called it The LORD Is Peace…
If we read a bit earlier from Verse 13-16, he has an interesting conversation with the Lord not knowing he was talking to the Lord.
He was full of questions and was puzzled why all these things were happening to them. What happened to all the testimonies from the past thru his ancestors? Then the Lord calls him to go and destroy the enemy.
We are so good at complaining when we read something in the newspaper or in the news. We question, “Why are people behaving like this or why there is so much of hatred and war or abuse in the families?”
God says I am raising you up to build altars of prayer to bring peace to all the chaotic situation that you see around you.
Like Gideon, we may say that I am so small in front of this big mess. Today God is promising us that we will not fight this battle alone,
“16 The Lord answered, “I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites, leaving none alive.”
Then he brings an offering to the Lord and the Lord accepts it and speaks Peace into his spirit. In most situations, the battles are inside of us which we need to overcome first before we could see the peace of God manifest on the outside.
Like Gideon, let us build an altar to the Lord of Peace and honour His name and pray for His presence of peace will have a complete dominion in all circumstances.
